How to Get Back into an Exercise Routine

Howdy everybody,

My name is Max. I’ve been working with Alex for about ten months now, and very early on—as soon as he let his genuine curiosity about my case loose and showed me a few tricks—I began seeing real improvements in my general wellbeing. This was huge for me, as I’ve been chronically ill, mostly on the neurological side of things (visual issues, nerve pain, etc.), for almost a decade now, and very few things had seemed to set me on a road to actual, non-short-lived improvements. But despite those initial rewards, changes in my life (first a move, which meant I had to change gyms, then doubled with a professional transition—oh, and of course summertime showing up, with its usual lax vibes) were such that I lost track of most of the good exercise habits we’d implemented together. I’m now getting back to all of it (with, I must say, high hopes of having it stick, for good): sessions with Alex, at his studio, during which he evaluates my reflexes and the general state of my coordination/proprioception, as well as a regular, progressive training program followed on my own through The Online School of Exercise platform. Both are tailored, always to the best of his evolving knowledge, to my body’s needs. I plan on documenting my progress here, letting you know about every bit of my experience: the highs and successes, of course, but really mostly the lows, by which I mean the nitty-gritty struggles of one guy living through the recovery his sense of well-being. All made possible by another guy (yes, that’s Alex I’m pointing at!) who cares very much for paving my way toward the recovery I’ve been wishing for.

So it begins: this week I hit the gym once, and it was tough. I didn’t finish my sets, and I grew dizzy quickly in there. But I walked out before exhausting myself, and felt, walking home, that I’d done good in accomplishing the first step: showing up—building the habit before worrying about my actual progress. Next week I plan on going twice. And on we go.

Apart from that I’ve been carrying out a handful of exercises at home, three to four times a day. These were suggested by Alex during his re-evaluation, just last week—they target the inner ear and my eye muscles—this habit is really sticking, and I’ll definitely be letting you know of any results on that front.

That’s it for now . You can read me again in a week’s time!
