How to Get Back Into an Exercise Routine (Part 3)
This week, I thought I’d let you guys in on an exercise I’ve been doing repeatedly, over the months, during my sessions with Alex at the studio…
The helmet-type object you see sitting on the crown of my head is called an “Iron Neck,” and it’s been offering me one of the most interesting little workouts, every time. As a neck training equipment, it allows you to target and strengthens the muscles of that specific area, which in my case are generally very stiff—it’s in fact where I experience most of my chronic pain. With this type of resistance training, I can really feel improvements, little by little, since there is no doubt the general strength and mobility of these muscles has been increasing. What’s most interesting about it is that on every occasion, I feel a pretty dramatic increase in mobility during the workout; it seems the resistance “tricks” the brain into “letting go,” if you will, of the accumulated stiffness. But most importantly I’ve noticed that, over time, the general flexibility and range of motion has been improving in my daily life as well. Complementing this with a comprehensive workout plan at the gym has been key, of course, but this piece of equipment has proved to be, in my case, an important addition to the mix—Alex was in fact quick to realize that strengthening the muscles in that area would have a positive effect on my general well-being and probably reduce pain… and he was definitely right.
Catch y’all next week with another update!
